Introduction To AdWords

Hia All,

Well, this is the part where I give you a real quick introduction to Google AdWords.

Google AdWords is an advertising program offered by Google, and I would venture to say it’s the most popular Pay Per Click advertising program being used on the internet.

Here’s how it works.

First, I’m sure you’ve seen the “Sponsored Links” that are on the right hand side of a Google search results page. All those ads are paid to be there, and you might be surprised to know that it doesn’t cost as much as you would think.

As an advertiser, you create an AdWords account, and from there you can write an ad, provide the URL where you want the surfer to go once they click the ad, and other target market information (language / geography / location / etc.. )

The most important part of the process is to determine the keywords that you want to trigger your advertisement. For example if you’re selling bicycles you’ll select keywords related to bicycles such as “new bike” “cycling” “spare bike parts” and similar.

Once you have your keywords selected, you can then enter a “bid” amount for those keywords, letting the AdWords system know how much you’re willing to pay for a click. I have a formula I use to figure that out, and I’ll share it with you later. But it’s obviously tied to my conversion rates. You also set a daily budget for spending so that you don’t break the bank with paying for clicks.

So, now you have an ad written, you have key words selected, and you’ve given yourself a budget. Once you have everything set up, Google will start displaying your ad almost immediately! I would say that depending on how targeted you niche is, you’ll usually start seeing impressions and clicks within the first 15 minutes!

What a great marketing medium where you can create an advertisement, target that ad to specific geographic regions, target specific keywords, define a specific budget and launch the campaign in about 15 minutes!

The hard part is in the “tweaking” .. the “broad brush” strokes are easy and encouraging, but the details are super important.

Just stick with it, take your time, don’t give up. It takes time, but once you get a sale or two under your belt, you’ll have the bug for sure!
