What about Affiliate Marketing?

Yeah. Affiliate marketing.

I’ve been reading and searching and toying with the whole Affiliate Marketing concept. Here’s my take on it.

I believe there are some people who are making a LOT of money with affiliate marketing. Right now, I’m not one of them! But I do believe there are actually people making a lot of money doing it.

If you’re new to the whole concept of affiliate marketing, basically the concept is that you promote and advertise products and or services that are provided by someone else, and if you refer a person who makes a purchase, you get a part of the profit.

It seems to me, there are basically two kinds of affiliate programs, pure digital products and services, and physical goods.

Clickbank seems to be the clear leader in selling digital products on-line. Basically if you have an informational product such as an article, eBook, “how-to” or other document that you think other people would pay money for, you can allow Clickbank to manage an affiliate program for you. They make your digital product available to affiliates to promote. So lets say you want to sell the book for $29.00. You allow affiliates to make a part of that $29.00 in exchange for promoting it for you. It can be a great way to make a lot of money.

Of course the other side of that coin is to login as an affiliate and select other people products to promote for a profit.

My strategy is to start as an affiliate, and see if I can’t make a little money with that first. So far it’s been hit or miss. I’ve selected and promoted a handful of products. Some of them have been good, some of them have not. The ones that were good weren’t great, and the ones that were bad, weren’t awful.

How do I promote these things? So far, only with PPC. Specifically Google Adwords. It’s taken me a while to figure out all the ins and outs of Adwords, and I’m sure I still don’t have it all figured out, but I’m getting there.

In a later post, I’ll give you specific examples of the products that I’ve been promoting and how they’ve been doing.
